I was just introduced to this “soup” by my Chinese daughter in law. She makes hers with mung beans, lotus seed, and barley. Honey is added as a sweetener just before eating.
I spent 10 days with my daughter in law and son. the weather is very hot where they live in Georgia, USA. We had this multiple times. I just made it for my husband and I today and hope it’s as good as hers was. It is a great way to add grains and beans to my diet. It is refreshing on a hot day. It does take a little getting used to, though! By my 3rd time having it I was addicted. thank you for sharing this information and context for me!
I desperately want to try this!! I have no idea where to get mung beans or rue from but I'm going to find it and make this one day as it looks delicious! Love your blog & learning about new recipes with ingredients - and I absolutely love desserts!
